“But he answered and said, It is written, Man
shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the
mouth of God.” Matthew 4:4
If I had
to paint a picture to represent this scripture it would be a never ending box
or never-ending room. What do I mean by that?
Can you remember watching one of those movies or a videos where they show about 20 people coming out of the back door of a small car, or
where they show someone bringing out a large elephant out of a small box? Great! Then
you know exactly what I’m talking about. The box, car or the wardrobe has its
own dimensions and what it is able to carry or contain but it also has a characteristic that
gives it a never ending capacity.
There
are two of such occurrences in the bible. The first was in 1 Kings
1 Kings 17:12-16
12 And she said, As the Lord thy
God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little
oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and
dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.
13 And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said:
but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make
for thee and for thy son.
14 For thus saith the Lord God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither
shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the Lord sendeth rain upon the earth.
15 And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she,
and he, and her house, did eat many days.
16 And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil
fail, according to the word of the Lord,
which he spake by Elijah.
The second
time this happened was in 2 Kings 4
2 Kings 4
4 A certain woman of the wives of the sons
of the prophets cried out to Elisha, saying, “Your servant my husband is dead,
and you know that your servant feared the Lord. And the creditor is coming to take my
two sons to be his slaves.”
2 So Elisha said to her, “What shall I do for you? Tell me,
what do you have in the house?” And she said, “Your maidservant has nothing in
the house but a jar of oil.”
3 Then he said, “Go, borrow vessels from everywhere, from all
your neighbors—empty vessels; do not gather just a few. 4 And when you
have come in, you shall shut the door behind you and your sons; then pour it
into all those vessels, and set aside the full ones.”
5 So she went from him and shut the door behind her and her
sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured it out. 6 Now it came to
pass, when the vessels were full, that she said to her son, “Bring me another
vessel.”
And he
said to her, “There is not another vessel.” So the oil ceased. 7 Then she came
and told the man of God. And he said, “Go, sell the oil and pay your debt; and
you and your sons live on the rest.”
Gods ability created a never-ending resource.
Matthew Chapter 4:4 tells
us that apart from the part of us that lives by bread, there is a part of us
that is sustained by the word of God. Philippians 4:13 (I can do all things through Christ[a] who strengthens me.) tells us that, the part
of us makes us ‘limitless / bottomless’ is not by our own strength, but by Christ
who lives in us. Take this very literally. "You truly can achieve and do ALL
things in Christ."
My question today is, are
you tapping into your full ability?
Imagine driving a Ferrari on 20KM/Hour on
race track, imagine a microwave oven being used only to heat up water, imagine
an ipad being used only to write and store notes, and imagine you tapping into
only your physical ability. With God’s word we feed
the part of us that connects us to our limitless ability. We activate the portal
that opens up into an endless world of possibilities.
The bible describes God’s
word as a mirror. Think about a mirror, when you look into it, you can see
yourself but also a whole new world that is as big as the one you are in but is
sealed within the 1cm thick piece of glass. God’s doesn't make you do more than you can carry; it unlocks that portal, giving you access to God’s
Ability, God’s Strength, God’s Direction, Unlimited Wisdom and Understanding,
ZOE.
Do you have a dream, do
you have a vision,
Does it seem bigger than
you? Is it seemingly out of reach?
Tap into what you have
available in God. He does not ask you to do things considering your power. He
asked you to do things by his own power at work in you. Halleluyah
His indescribable,
undisputable power and majesty will make the mountains you face today as
nothing to you as you soar over them by his grace.
Have a wonderful Day.
PRAYER FOR TODAY:
Lord give me the
confidence to walk on water if you ask me to knowing that I am sustained not only
by the food I eat but by the power which I have access to in your word. Holy Spirit
have your way in my life. When my heart feels overwhelmed please help me
remember that I can handle all my responsibilities and tasks you assign to me
by your power. Thank you Lord, in Jesus Name. Amen
