Everytime I think about Romans 8:11, I see balloons. Ballons are very interesting:
- If you fill them with Helium they float up in the air.
- You fill them with 'air' they roll on the ground
- If you put a little rice and shake them, they act like tambourines
- Make it really big and fill with hot air, and you have a means of transport
- Fill it with water and you have a 'water bomb' for kids to throw during play time
- It can be a sign, a gift, a decoration e.t.c The list is almost endless.
What a balloon can do is determined by its shape, material, size and so on (characteristics), but what a balloon WILL DO is determined by what you put inside it. For example some balloons are made in specific shapes and when they are filled with air or water, they take that shape but if you leave them empty their ability has not changed but they will be flat.
Romans 8:11 is a reminder that, What we will do is determined not by our characteristics but by our source of animation. Romans 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. going by the definition, I would say For an many as are 'animated' by the spirit of God they are the sons of God. Who is animating you?
an·i·mate (n-mt)
tr.v. an·i·mat·ed, an·i·mat·ing, an·i·mates
1. To give life to; fill with life.
2. To impart interest or zest to; enliven: "The party was animated by all kinds of men and women"
3. To fill with spirit, courage, or resolution; encourage.
4. To inspire to action; prompt.
5. To impart motion or activity to.
6. To make, design, or produce (a cartoon, for example) so as to create the illusion of motion.
As an adjective Animate (n-mt) means
1. Possessing life; living.
Sometimes we commit ourselves to doing something for God (It could be singing, acting, writing, praying, offerings, donations to the poor, working on a particular project e.t.c ) and it gives us a sense of fulfillment and we enjoy every minute of it. Then after a while, we may realize that we have to push and convince ourselves to do it, the joy, inspiration and even the time to do it is gone.
Its a question of animation.
- Ever wondered why you enjoy spending time in God's presence sometimes, but when you stop for a while, it begins to feel like a chore the next time you want to?
- Ever wondered why you do somethings so easily when you have spent a lot of time in God's presence?
- Is there a skill, desire or dream that seems to come and go, or an activity that you find yourself loosing interest in that you were once so passionate about?
- Maybe you feel you have outgrown some of your desires, but they come again and you begin to wonder how come.
- Have you ever woken up one morning and you have so much to do, here, there and everywhere and all of a sudden you feel lost, wondering "What is the Point of all this?"
Man is a lot like a balloon. Many times we loose ourselves as we are tossed around by our feelings, desires and circumstances. Our Soul can get lost if our spirit is not connected and receiving animation from the Holy Spirit.
It is whats on the inside that counts, and today the Holy spirit wants you to remind you that when he fills you and animates you, he inspires you towards your purpose. He makes you the best you you can be, he makes you hungry for the things you need. He gives you the enablement to achieve great things, he even improves your characteristics and your abilities. He makes you want to go in the way you are supposed to go.
He imparts interest and zest

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
Holy Spirit I need you. I pray you animate me and motivate me in the direction the God wants me to go. Help me to spend my time developing my relationship with you to the point where your desires are my desired and my motivation comes from you. Lead me to discover and fulfill my purpose and help me to inspire others towards theirs. In Jesus Name I pray. Amen
Romans 8:11 And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.
This speaks more about how I tend to perceive things around me, however I thank God that He animates me as He desires. Bless His name, this page has been so inspiring!
